Product Development Manager Sept 2020 – Nov 2023
In the early 2020s, I officially stepped into a role that would not only challenge me but also define my career in ways I had never imagined. I was appointed as the Product Development Manager at TheMix Shop, a branch of Thermomix, located in Perth, Western Australia. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, I was entrusted with a team of four, each dedicated to shipping, fulfilment, E-commerce administration, and purchasing functions. The vision was clear; steer the New Product Development function of TheMix Shop across Australia and New Zealand while ensuring all teams worked harmoniously from ideation to marketing phases.
The Journey of Transformation
When we embarked on this journey, the retail offering was limited to a range of Thermomix parts and cookbooks. By applying a deep understanding of market trends and customer preferences, I spearheaded a transformation that expanded our portfolio to nearly 400 innovative kitchenware products by the end of 2023. This was not merely an expansion but a revolution that showcased the power of understanding and adapting to customer needs.
The Revenue Revolution
One of our most noteworthy achievements was the exponential acceleration in revenue. From A$500K in 2017, we grew to a staggering A$20M across five years, with the addition of only one Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) headcount. This growth was not just a testament to the innovative products we developed but also to the efficiency and dedication of the team I was leading.
Strategic Partnerships
A key component of our success was the strategic partnerships we forged with leading international manufacturers. I took the initiative to source and collaborate to ensure a seamless supply chain and adherence to high-quality product standards. This collaboration generated profit multipliers far exceeding 3.2, a feat that underscored the importance of choosing the right partners.
